Selders was a four-year starter for The C of I in both football and baseball from 1937-1941. He was a three-time member of the All-Northwest Conference Football team and helped lead the Coyote baseball team to the 1940 Northwest Conference Eastern Division Championship. Selders also served in World War II and earned the Silver Star Medal as a U.S. Marine during the Iwo Jima invasion.
