KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -
Andrew Clifford led a record-setting day for the College of Idaho men's swim team, as the Coyotes sit in sixth-place after Day 2 of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships inside the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatics Center.
Clifford broke C of I's school record in both the preliminaries and finals of the 200-yard individual medley - earning All-America honors with his fourth-place finish and time of 1:49.31. C of I has 87 team points at the midway point of the meet - their highest Day 2 total in program history.
The junior followed it up with a huge anchor leg of the 400-yard medley relay - teaming with
Aziz Jaouhar,
Hayden Krause and
Jake Klassen to break the school record (3:26.97) - placing sixth in the championship final to earn All-America accolades. Clifford, Krause, Jaouhar and
Mitch Hawley helped the Yotes 200-yard freestyle relay team win the consolation final with a season-best mark of 1:24.67.
Three other athletes competed in the 200-yard IM - as Klassen placed 20th (1:56.01), Hawley took 22nd (1:56.73) and
Ryan Barnard placed 33rd (2:00.02). Three others competed in the 500-yard freestyle, all recording season-best times - Jaouhar in 20th (4:44.66),
Ian Clifford in 21st (4:44.90) and
Graham Williams in 33rd (4:48.95).
Day 3 of the meet begins tomorrow with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. (EST), with finals at 6 p.m. (EST)
