MOSCOW, Idaho – The College of Idaho swim and dive team opened their 2024-2025 season at the University of Idaho on Saturday, with several athletes achieving significant improvements and personal breakthroughs. The Yotes saw early-season progress, highlighted by an unofficial NAIA qualifying standard in diving.
Matthew Logston set the tone with a standout score of 233.59 in the 1-meter dive, meeting the unofficial NAIA qualifying standard. "Big day for our up-and-coming team," said head coach Brian Pearson. "Fun had by all. Several breakthroughs, including Matt Logston's unofficial national qualifying performance."
In the pool, multiple College of Idaho athletes surpassed their seed times. Sam Cortes delivered a strong performance in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:51.99 (down from a 2:00.00 seed time). His teammate, Matti Eikenes, also improved in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 22.62, besting his seed time of 22.50.
Karl Yount followed suit in the same event, clocking 23.01 in the 50-yard freestyle, a slight improvement from his seed of 22.50. Cahill Robinson delivered a strong finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.37, improving on his seed time of 1:12.00.
For the women, Sophie Mottishaw competed in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:11.78. In the 50-yard freestyle, Shae Arnold clocked 30.28, while Darby Rossi improved her 100-yard breaststroke time to 1:33.78 from 1:39.99. Arnold, Rossi, Mottishaw, and Lily Schroer gained valuable early-season experience in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing at 2:13.18.
With several personal improvements and key performances, the Yotes are poised for continued growth as the season progresses.
