CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho's Jace Zemlicka has been named Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference (PCSC) Male Freshman of the Week following a standout performance in the Yotes' regular-season finale at George Fox University.
Zemlicka delivered a dominant showing in the distance events, scoring crucial points that helped the Yotes secure a 96-88 dual victory over the Bruins. The freshman opened the meet with a commanding win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, staying composed through the first 500 yards before pulling away to win by nearly 10 seconds. He followed that effort with another victory in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 5:07.49 to earn nine more points.
Zemlicka capped his day by swimming the second leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, joining teammates Sam Cortez, Caden LaRue and Alec Rodriguez to post a time of 3:28.24 and seal the team triumph.
"Jace's ability to execute race strategy and score in multiple events played a key role in our success," said head coach Rice. "He showed poise and strength in both distance races and contributed to a big relay win."
The meet marked the final tune-up before the Yotes head to the Great Southwest Athletic Conference Championships, scheduled for Jan. 30–Feb. 1 in Aliso Viejo, California.
