NEWBERG, Ore. –
Caroline Yannelli recorded two of the seven overall race wins for the College of Idaho, as the Yotes dominated their first dual meet of 2019 at George Fox, inside Chehalem Parks and Recreation Aquatics Center.
Competing for the first time since Dec. 2, the Yotes earned a convincing 117-54 win over the Bruins, improving their dual meet record to 3-2-1 – giving new head coach
Tyler Maryon his first win.
Yannelli established a new NAIA "B" standard with her victory in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.65), while dominating the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.69). She also swam a leg on both the winning 400-yard freestyle (3:46.93) and 400-yard medley (4:07.07) relay teams, with the medley squad improving their NAIA "A" standard.
Maddy Kelly dueled with Aspen Munkhouse, the top sprinter in the Northwest Conference – taking second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.68), while rallying for a victory in the 100-yard freestyle (54.37). Teammate
Maya Murphy placed third in both races – clocking times of 25.07 in the 50-free and 55.35 in the 100-free.
Two others earned individual wins –
Reina Watkins in the 200-yard IM (2:20.04) and
Laurel Rowe in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.41) – with
Aunika Torres recording second-place finishes in both the 200-yard IM (2:23.38) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.40). Watkins time improved her NAIA "B" mark set earlier this season.
