TACOMA, Wash. – Seven different College of Idaho men's swimmers hit NAIA "A" qualifying marks in today's final of the Logger Invitational at Wallace Pool.
The Coyotes finished a close third in the eight-team, three-day meet – scoring 542 total points – behind Whitworth (698) and Concordia-Irvine (602).
C of I continue to set records in the breaststroke – as
Andrew Clifford won the championship final of the 100-yard event, with his time of 57.20 seconds improving his national qualifying mark and logging the fastest time ever by a Coyote. In the same race,
Hayden Krause placed third – hitting the "A" standard with a time of 58.44 – which broke the previous school record as well.
Brad Motyer added a "B" cut in the race with a time of 1:00.12.
Clifford also won the 200-yard freestyle – shaving four seconds off his "A" mark with a time of 1:41.58. Three others hit "B" marks in the race –
Matthew Kahlig (1:48.22),
Mitch Hawley (1:48.23) and Brenden Sauer (1:49.36).
Dylan Osborne capped a great meet with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly (51.42), adding a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.67).
Graham Williams had a big day – taking fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle, dropping 47 seconds from his top mark of the season (16:35.05), while hitting an "A" mark in the 400-yard IM (4:19.59).
Hitting NAIA "A" marks on the day included Hawley, with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (54.27);
Ian Locke, with a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (52.58); Alex Chournos in the 400-yard IM (4:20.85); Sauer in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:22.68); and
Jake Klassen in the 100-yard butterfly (52.67). Kahlig added a "B" mark in the 50-yard freestyle.
