TACOMA, Wash. –
Caroline Yannelli won the 200-yard breaststroke title in meet record and school record fashion, as the College of Idaho sits in seventh place after Day 2 of the Logger Invitational at Wallace Pool.
Yannelli, who had the fastest time in the morning preliminary heats, blitzed the field in a time of 2:21.32 – seven seconds faster than her seasonal best – and shaving sixth-tenths of a second off her own school mark and logging the top mark in the NAIA this season. The sophomore added a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.48) – improving her NAIA "A" cut by five seconds.
Taylor Gordon had a big day, establishing two new NAIA auto marks – clocking times of 2:13.97 in the 200-yard backstroke and 5:19.39 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Two others recorded a pair of NAIA Bonus Cuts, as
Reina Watkins hit the provisional times in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.30) and in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.85), while
Aunika Torres hit the "B" mark in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.05) and the 200-yard IM (2:20.30).
In the 100-yard freestyle,
Maya Murphy placed fifth overall (53.45) – shaving over two seconds off her NAIA "A" mark, while
Hailie Mazick met the "B" standard in the event (56.55).
The Lady Yotes will compete in Day 3 of the meet on Sunday – with preliminary heats starting at 9 a.m. and the timed finals at 4 p.m.
