CALDWELL, Idaho – Freshman
Laurel Rowe recorded a pair of victories in her first collegiate meet, helping the College of Idaho to a dual meet draw with Division III Puget Sound inside the J.A. Albertson Aquatics Center.
A win by the Lady Yotes 200-yard freestyle relay team helped C of I pull even in the team score with the Loggers, with the short-course dual ending in a 101-101 tie.
C of I recorded six NAIA automatic qualifying standards and one bonus cut on the day – with four different athletes punching their tickets to Nationals.
Rowe claimed wins in both distance events, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:28.07) by 36 seconds, while earned a six-second win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.03).
Fellow frosh,
Reina Watkins, hit two NAIA marks – winning the 100-yard freestyle with a "B" qualifying time of 57.15, while hitting the "A" cut with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.81).
Another freshman,
Maya Murphy, dominated the 50-yard freestyle, earning a one-second win with an "A" cut time of 24.79.
Both returning All-Americans also had a great opener – as
Caroline Yannelli hit the "A" cut with her 24-second win in the 400-yard IM (4:56.14), with
Maddy Kelly taking a four-second win with an auto-qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly (57.60) – the No. 3 time in C of I history.
C of I swept both relays – hitting national marks in the 200-medley (1:53.69) and 200-free (1:41.46) events.
Kelli Callahan was a double winner for the Loggers – winning the 200-yard free (1:59.63) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.69 – the latter giving UPS a 95-90 lead heading into the final event.
The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend, competing in Oakland, Calif., at both the Mills Duals and the Bay Area Invite.
