CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho scored the first nine goals of the match, overwhelming Portland State, 27-12, to clinch the outright PNCLL South Division championship on Senior Day at Symms Field.
The No. 17 ranked Coyotes (10-0, 5-0) remained the lone unbeaten team left in either the MCLA Division I or II and extended their school record win streak to 10 games.
C of I blitzed the Vikings (4-5, 1-3) over the first eight minutes of the match as
Jaden Carson scored less than two minutes into the match, with a
Nich Guzzetti strike a minute later extending the lead. The Yotes overwhelmed PSU over a 87 second stretch – scoring five goals – a Carson unassisted goal; a Guzzetti scored off a
Tyler Sanchez feed; a Sanchez counter off a Guzzetti pass;
Cory Brady dumping home a goal from a Guzzetti pass; and Guzzetti finishing off a
Dillon Green feed. Back-to-back Green goals extended the lead to 9-0 with 7:07 left in the quarter.
The Yotes led 11-4 after the opening quarter and 17-7 at the break – allowing the seven senior student-athletes the run of the pitch during the second half.
Green led the Coyote attack with a season-high eight goals, with Guzzetti scoring seven goals with two assists. Carson had four goals and Brady scored three times in the victory, with goalie
V.J. Dahm turning away 10 shots.
The Yotes close out the regular-season next weekend with a non-conference match-up against Division I opponent, Washington State, at Symms Field at 1 p.m.
