Yotes Slay No. 4 Montana State

CALDWELL, Idaho - Sitting at number 10 in the nation, the Yotes welcomed the No. 4 ranked Montana State Univ. Bobcats to Simplot Stadium in one of the most anticipated games in the MCLA this season. The hosts never trailed to win 13-9. The victory marked the second highest ranked opponent C of I defeat in program history and the highest win in the regular season. In 2019, the Yotes upset No. 3 Grand Valley State 13-9 in the MCLA quarterfinal.

The Yotes only took less than three minutes to put themselves ahead. Grayson Flatten utilized a screen from Colin Lantz to find enough room to fit a tight pass to Trevor Shoopman who shot the ball behind his back through contact to score an incredible goal. Long range efforts from Logan Bjornethun and Jordan Steele along with a clinical finish from Flatten, the Yotes jumped to a 3-1 lead late into the first quarter. C of I added four more goals to build a 7-3 halftime lead.

Starting the second half like the first, Lantz scored within three minutes of the second half. The Bobcats, stormed back with a pair of goals of their own and would out score the Yotes 4-3 in the third quarter. With poise in the final quarter, the Yotes reclaimed a five goal advantage and held on to a 13-9 win.

Lantz and Trevor Shoopman both scored hat tricks. Trevor Shoopman also tallied a pair of assists to lead the Yotes with five points on the night. Flatten's two goals and two assists for four points in the game was the second best points tally for the Yotes. Finn Simon scored a brace and the trio of Jordan Steele, Henry Harris, and Logan Bjornethun all got on the box score with a goal.

Brogan Rice once again stood tall minding the goal. He collected eleven saves with a 55% save rate against the potent Bobcat attack. Zac Shoopman caused a team high three turnovers. Zac Shoopman, Luqa Longstreet, Chris Nieman, and Eli Longstreet all collected three ground balls. From the faceoff x, Noah Geise won over half of his faceoffs to give the Yotes the advantage in possessions.
