KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –
Alex Kordopatis had four hits and
Destiny Turner hit two home runs to extend her hit streak to 16 games, but it wasn't enough for the College of Idaho, as Oregon Tech swept a doubleheader header at the OIT Softball Complex.
The Owls (19-13, 11-3 CCC) used a late run in Game 1 to earn a 4-3 decision, while pounding out 15 hits in a 14-8 victory in Game 2.
OIT took a quick 1-0 lead in the opener, as Tara Moates doubled with two outs in the first and scored on an Ali Graham RBI single – part of her 3-for-3 effort in Game 1.
The Lady Yotes (11-12-1, 5-7) pulled even in the third, as Turner golfed a long home run over the scoreboard in right field, but Moates returned the favor in the bottom of the inning, hitting an opposite field two-run shot to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.
C of I came back in the sixth, as Kordopatis singled with two outs and
Cortni Pena tied the game with a two-run homer of her own. However, Tech regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Graham doubled and scored on a two-out Cassidy Hoglund RBI single that proved to be the game winner.
Kelly Scott got the win in relief for OIT, allowing three runs on three hits with four strikeouts, while Kordopatis was 2-for-3 in the loss for the Yotes.
Game 2 was a slugfest, as Turner gave the Coyotes the lead on the first pitch of the game, lining her sixth homer of the season to right – extending her hit streak to 16 games in the process. An
Ashley Pesek RBI triple later in the inning extended the margin to 2-0.
OIT found their rhythm, scoring 11-straght runs over a three inning period – plating four in the second, two more in the third and Sadie Birch hit a three-run homer in a five-run fourth to give the hosts an 11-2 lead.
The Yotes avoided a run-rule loss with a six-run fifth, as C of I got RBI singles from
Delaney Atkins, Pena and
Katelyn Geyer; a bases-loaded walk from
Ali Longoria; an RBI ground out from
Bentli Corta; and a run off an OIT error to pull within 11-8. Unfortunately, Graham capped her big day with a three-run blast in the bottom of the inning to give the Owls to keep the Yotes at bay.
Turner, Kordopatis and
Katie Rowe each had two hits for C of I in the loss, with Hoglund and Katie Virtue each recording three hits for OIT.
The Coyotes continue their road swing tomorrow at No. 16 ranked Southern Oregon at 11 a.m. (PDT)
