ATHERTON, Calif. – College of Idaho set a school record with eight doubles in a Game 2 win, as the Lady Yotes completed a doubleheader sweep of Menlo College at Wunderlich Field.

C of I struck for three runs in the first inning of Game 1 – as
Rickey Kamimae blooped a 3-run double down the right field line. They would extend the margin to 4-0 in the fifth when pinch runner
Angelina Romero scored on a wild pitch, and then add four insurance runs in the seventh – including a long 3-run homer from
Destiny Turner – to put the game away.
Starter
Ashley Pesek was dominant, allowing an unearned run on only five hits, striking out six. Kamimae was 2-for-4 and
Delaney Atkins finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2 was highlighted by the Yote bats, breaking the school record of seven doubles in a game from the 2007 season. Freshman
Bentli Corta tied
Nickayla Skinner's single-game record of three doubles from the 2014 season, while
Hailey Chambers added a pair of two-baggers.
C of I opened a 3-0 lead in the nightcap, getting a Turner RBI double and a Kamimae sacrifice fly in the first, with
Katie Rowe adding an RBI single in the third.
Leading 3-1, the Yotes batted around for six runs in the fifth inning – with a Corta bases-clearing double providing the big blow.
The Oaks (0-2) would not go down easily, scoring four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the gap to 9-7. However, Turner changed the momentum in the seventh with one swing, smashing a long grand slam over the right-center wall to cap the scoring.
Cortni Pena earned the win for C of I, allowing just one run on four hits, striking out six. Pesek went the final two-plus innings, stranding the bases loaded in the fifth inning, to pick up the save. Rowe and Corta were each 3-for-3 in the victory, with Turner ending the game 2-for-5 with five RBI.
C of I will have the next two weekends off in preparation for the Northwest Cup in Portland in late February.
