Yotes Roll to a 3-0 Victory over Oregon Tech

Box Score

CALDWELL, Idaho - An inspired effort at both ends of the pitch helped The College of Idaho to their second-straight win, a 3-0 shutout of Oregon Tech, in Cascade Conference men's soccer action at Simplot Stadium.

An early goal and a pair of late goals helped the Yotes (3-8, 3-4 CCC) to their first back-to-back wins this season - with keeper Colin Benham-Marin recording his first shutout of 2013.

The Coyotes jumped out quickly - as Tyler Lawton played a ball up the right side in the ninth minute, with Joe Bolin touching the ball past an Owls (4-6, 3-3) defender and launching a shot into the left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

OIT managed just two first half shots, but one nearly found the net - as Nathan Wade eluded Benham-Marin in the 42nd minute, but his shot on frame was redirected out of play by Andres Idoeta.

The Yotes got two huge insurance tallies in the final 11 minutes. Joao Cardoso scored his first collegiate goal early in the 80th minute, picking up a loose ball at the right corner of the box, and rifling a shot into the upper left corner of the net. In the 89th minute, C of I added another, as Nicko Moreno served a corner kick to the far post, finding the head of John Fronk for the goal.

C of I held a commanding 19-5 edge in total shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Coyotes close out their four-match home stand on Tuesday, hosting Concordia at 3:30 p.m.
