Yotes Wrap Up Nonconference Play

IRVINE, Calif. – The College of Idaho men's soccer team grabbed an early second-half lead, but three unanswered goals from Matthias Alcaraz helped Hope International rally for a 3-1 victory Friday afternoon at Great Park in Irvine.

The Yotes (0-3-1) broke through just over a minute into the second half when defender Jake Anderson converted a scoring chance off an assist from Chris Slater in the 47th minute. The goal was Anderson's first of the season and gave The College of Idaho a 1-0 advantage.

Hope International (3-0-0) answered quickly, as Alcaraz found the equalizer in the 52nd minute before adding the eventual game-winner less than eight minutes later. He completed the hat trick with a goal in the 86th minute to account for the final margin.

Despite facing constant pressure, goalkeeper Fynn Gehring kept the Yotes within striking distance throughout the contest. The junior recorded eight saves, including three in the opening half and five after the break.

Hope International held a 30-9 edge in total shots and a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Alfie Roffey led The College of Idaho with three shots on goal, while Anderson and Greyson Pew each added a shot on target.

The Yotes will now turn their attention to Cascade Collegiate Conference play, opening the league schedule at home against Warner Pacific University (Ore.) on Sept. 18 at Simplot Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
