SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Westminster College scored a pair of goals in the final 14 minutes of the second half to defeat The College of Idaho, 2-1, in the final game of the Westminster Men's Kickoff Classic at Dumke Field
Box Score
Despite having a 19-6 edge in total shots, the Griffins (2-0) were held off the scoreboard by a stellar C of I defense and seven saves from keeper Colin Benham-Marin. The host evened the score at 1-1 in the 76th minute, when Wilson Larson played a ball into the box, with Jace Maxfield heading a second-ball into the net after a touch from Ryan Smith. Westminster kept the pressure on and tallied the game-winner with three minutes to play, as Smith headed home a cross from Jordan Conroy.
The Yotes (0-2-1) opened the scoring quickly just seven minutes in, as Emilio Yomaha got free in the box and slotted a ball under WC keeper Nathan Young, just crossing the goal line for a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, The C of I had just two other shots on goal in the match.
The Coyotes return to action this weekend with a scrimmage at Walla Walla CC and a counter against Whitman College.
