Hornung Tabbed as NAIA Offensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, MO - For only the third time in program history, Eric Hornung earns NAIA Men's Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week. His 11 point game set a program record originally set by Derek Jordan in 1990. The Nuremburg, Germany native scored four goals and assisted three more in the historic night against the University of Providence (Mont.). He contributed to seven out of nine goals in what was a close game at half. He joins Aaron Reynolds (2010) and Antonio Bautista (2008) as the only other Yotes to be recognized as a national player of the week.

Hornung started the night early, scoring his first goal of the night with a back post run from a Pierre Fabre corner kick in the 5th minute. The senior then returned the favor in the 20th minute by serving a perfect cross to Fabre who tapped the header in. In the 60th minute, Hornung profited off a Krew Christensen press where Christensen stole the ball and laid the ball off to Hornung for the easy tap in to secure the brace.

Again working off a press, Hornung took a Fabre interception and slotted a beautiful through ball to Christensen who calmly finished the goal. Keidin Green later dished a pass to a wide open Hornung at the top of the box who then finished the goal to complete his hat trick in the 85th minute. Needing one more point to break the school record, Hornung chipped the ball over the Argos midfield for Green to lace an untouchable, half volley into the upper corner in the 90th minute.

Because his weekend could not be busy enough, he was an assistant coach for Caldwell High School who won the Idaho 6A Boys State Tournament Monday night in a penalty kick shootout over Borah High School. The game was originally schedule during his Yotes' game. However, weather prevented it from finishing and he was able to join the Caldwell High sideline for resumption and epic conclusion.

Hornung and the Yotes are currently on a hot run of form. They have been unbeaten in their last 8 games and look to improve their seeding this week against The Evergreen State College (Wash.) and Northwest University (Wash.)
