CALDWELL, Idaho – In front of an electric crowd at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center, the College of Idaho Yotes Men's basketball team teamed up with Special Olympics Idaho for a unified basketball game Monday night. A couple of hundred spectators were on hand to witness an inspiring display of sportsmanship, unity, and thrilling basketball.
The two teams, aptly named Team Bravery and Team Courage, showcased their skills in a fun, competitive game. Although the teams competed against each other, all the players were united for one purpose: promoting inclusivity and the spirit of the game.
Team Bravery ultimately came out on top, thanks to standout performances from players like Jake Platz, who overcame a slow start to lead the white team with sharp three-point shooting. Oliver Osgood anchored the defense while dishing out assists, and Anthony Leon impressed with full-court drives and defensive prowess. Kevin Sullivan also contributed with excellent ball distribution, and Michael Menges led fast breaks that kept Team Bravery in control.
For Team Courage, Ricky Stephens brought the crowd to its feet on multiple occasions with his high-energy play, entertaining fans with dazzling moves. McKay Majors and Dante Hibbs also chipped in with scoring, while Layton Zimmerman got hot in the first half, scoring 10 points in a row. Coty McMurry was unselfish in his passing, showing his versatility by scoring from beyond the arc. Camren Chandler played tough defense and was a force on the boards.
The College of Idaho Yotes players got involved in the action, with Chance Winter (Team Bravery) and Drew Wyman (Team Courage) wowing the crowd with highlight-reel alley-oop dunks from Kevin Sullivan and McKay Majors
The atmosphere was electric throughout the game, as fans cheered on both teams in a night that truly celebrated unity through sport.
