The College of Idaho Football Team Selected as Preseason Favorites for Frontier Conference

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho Yotes have been named the preseason favorites to win the Frontier Conference in the upcoming 2024 season. Garnering 7 out of 9 first-place votes in the Coaches' Poll, the Yotes have set high expectations following their impressive performance last year.

Stellar Previous Season
In the 2023 season, the Yotes achieved a remarkable 10-3 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the NAIA Championships. Their conference record stood at 6-2, with the only regular-season losses coming against Montana Tech and Southern Oregon. This stellar performance has bolstered confidence in the team's capabilities for the upcoming season.
Leadership and Experience
Head Coach Mike Moroski, now in his 11th season with the Yotes, emphasized the importance of experience and leadership within the team. "College Football Hall of Fame head coach Jim Sochor told me 20 years ago that 'you win with experience.' The experience he was talking about is the experience of high-achieving, disciplined players who have a diverse set of leadership skills," Moroski shared.
Key Returners
One of the most significant factors contributing to the Yotes' high expectations is the return of key players who have already proven their instrumental value as leaders:
  1. Andy Peters, QB (Boise, ID):
    • Peters is one of the most exciting talents in the country, known for his dual-threat capabilities. Last year, he amassed 840 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 3,442 passing yards, and 31 touchdown passes. Moroski praised Peters as potentially the most electrifying player in the modern era of the Yotes, likening him to past stars Darius-James Peterson and Jon Schofield. Peters' high motor, personal standards, and enthusiasm for the game make him a central figure in the team's offensive strategy.
  2. Brett Gydesen, OT (Tualatin, OR):
    • Gydesen, a four-year starter, is expected to be the cornerstone of a rebuilt but talented offensive line. Replacing graduated All-American Garret Rehberg, Gydesen brings extreme positivity, intensity, and a strong understanding of the game. His communication skills and influence make him a vital part of the team's success.
  3. Willie Nelson, LB (Bonneville, ID):
    • Known as "Mr. Idaho," Nelson epitomizes the hard-working and enthusiastic spirit of the Yote football program. His determination and attention to detail, both on and off the field, inspire his teammates. As a graduate student, Nelson's leadership is expected to play a crucial role in the team's defense.
  4. Jacob Arms, DB (Willits, CA):
    • Arms, a math and physics major, combines his academic brilliance with football intelligence. His ability to excel in multiple positions and his disciplined, analytical approach are reminiscent of Yotes' great Nate Moore. Arms' knack for making big plays in critical moments and his influence on younger players add to his importance on the team.
The Road Ahead
As the Yotes prepare for the upcoming season, Coach Moroski and his team are focused on leveraging their experience, talent, and leadership to achieve new heights. The combination of seasoned players and strategic additions positions the Yotes as strong contenders in the Frontier Conference. With Andy Peters at the helm and a team committed to excellence, the Yotes are poised for an exciting and potentially historic season.
The College of Idaho community eagerly anticipates the kickoff, ready to support their team in their quest for glory
