LOGAN, Utah – The #19 College of Idaho Yotes (7-2) made their way to the Utah State campus to face MCLA division one foe Wyoming Cowboys in a neutral site game. The Yotes struggled early and gave up a 3-1 lead to the Cowboys by the end of the first quarter. The Yotes rallied in the second; scoring eight and only allowing three goals to take a 9-3 lead into half. The scoring slowed down for both sides in the second half with the Yotes walking away from the battle victorious by 13-5 score.
Again, the Yotes put up a high volume of shots. They totaled 63 shots in the game, and forced the Cowboy's goalie to make 24 saves to keep them in the game. The recipe for success in finding the net was their passing and moving. Twelve out of the thirteen goals in the contest were assisted.
Paul O'Neill led the charge with five goals and two assists.
Alex Ozuna and
Jordan Steele both had five point games. Ozuna scored two goals with three assists while Steele put up three goals and two assists. Kip Child's all-around game found himself scoring a goal, contributing to three assists, and picked up five groundballs.
David Alvarado continues to show he is a force to reckon with by winning 18 out of 22 faceoffs while picking up eleven groundballs and scoring a goal.
Ty Burnett and
Kale Brunmeier held strong in defense. Burnett picked up eight groundballs and Brunmeier picked up an additional seven ground balls.
Joaquin Ruby kept the ship steady by protecting the goal with ten saves.
Up next for the Yotes is local, #11 rival Northwest Nazarene University at Simplot Stadium on April 19
th at 7pm to close out the regular season.
