RED LODGE, Mont. - The College of Idaho men's and women's skiing teams secured a spot at the USCSA Nationals in Lake Placid after a combined second-place finish by the men and a third-place finish by the women at the USCSA Western Region Championships. In Saturday's slalom events, the men were third and the women were fourth.
The top finisher in the men's slalom was
William Paquette, who posted a combined time of 1:49.21 for 15
th-place finish. Teammate
Carson Parco was 21
st after having the eighth-fastest performance in the second run en route to a combined time of 1:51.55. Also, for C of I, Benjamin Troyer was 24
th with a combined time of 1:53.54 and
Cade McIntyre was 52
nd with a combined time of 2:16.44.
As a team, the Yotes posted a combined time of 5:34.30 behind Rocky Mountain (5:02.61) and Air Force (5:19.16).
On the women's side in slalom, the Yotes had a pair –
Caitlyn Bumpers (2:01.43) and
Sasha Mueller (2:01.51) – finish eighth and ninth, respectively. Also, for the Yotes,
Taylor Watkins was 24
th in a combined time of 2:11.30 and
Kayla Vandecoevering was 33
rd with a combined time of 2:33.20.
The women's team was fourth as a team with a combined time of 6:14.24 behind Rocky Mountain (5:32.97), Colorado (5:58.97), Montana State (6:10.67).
The Yotes will hope to continue their momentum as they head to Lake Placid, New York to compete in the USCSA National Championship beginning Tuesday, March 5th.Â
