NAMPA, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team got their season started Saturday night in Nampa, falling to Northwest Nazarene in an exhibition contest by a score of 2-0.
The first half saw the Yotes and Nighthawks battle for possession, each maintaining control in the opponent's half of the pitch. The game would end with each team nearly even in total possession time, as NNU ended the game with 53 percent of possession in the game. The Nighthawks would have several scoring chances erased by offsides called, while goalkeeper
Ben Anderson saved a ball that was shot from well beyond the box to keep the game scoreless in the first half.Â
The Yotes best scoring chance of the game came in the first half when
Eric Hornung had the ball in the opposing end and was looking to score, only to have the shot turned away from Sawyer Price in goal for the Nighthawks, as the ball would roll just wide of the net. The Nighthawks would tally a pair of goals in the second half, coming off the feet of Jorge Gonzalez and Jim Wagenaar.
The Yotes season opener takes place against Jessup University in Rocklin on Friday.
