SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The College of Idaho men's swimming and diving team took seventh at the 2023 Slug Shootout held on the campus of UC Santa Cruz.
Joel Hartmann won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:56.09 for a victory by .63 ahead of his closest competitors. The time by Hartmann is a NAIA "B" qualifying mark and the fifth fastest in the NAIA to date. He also took seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:43.24) and 11
th in the 100-yard butterfly (54.59)
Gage Fouse was sixth in the 50-yard butterfly (24.11) and eighth in the 50-yard backstroke (25.76). Just behind Fouse in the 50-yard butterfly in seventh was
Vladimir Fedoseev, who touched the wall in 24.25.
Plus, Ruben Paiva was fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle in 17:40.71,
Alec Rodriguez was eighth in the 50-yard breaststroke in 28.21 and
Alec Chournos was 10
th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.02. Also, for C of I,
Ognjen Markovic was 12
th in the 100-yard freestyle (49.28) and 13
th in the 50-yard butterfly (24.54) and
Cahill Robinson was 16
th in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.56).
In relay events, the 200-yard freestyle relay (
Vladimir Fedoseev,
Karl Yount,
Cam Schwarzbach and Ogi Markovic) touched the wall in 1:30.46 en route to a sixth-place finish. The 200-yard medley relay (
Gage Fouse, Cahil Robinson,
Sam Cortes and
Ognjen Markovic) was eighth in a time of 1:40.05. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Vladimir Fedoseev,
Karl Yount,
Sam Cortes and Ogi Markovic was tenth in 3:18.70.
On the women's side, the College of Idaho women's swimming and diving team took eighth with 109 points.
Avalon Jones was 13
th in the 50-yard butterfly (28.61).
Isabel Carrillo was 19
th in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 35.67, teammate
Darby Rossi touched the wall in 44.18 for 25
th place.
In relay events, the 200-yard freestyle relay (
Avalon Jones,
Darby Rossi,
Julia Bergseng and
Mia Petrisevac) posted a time of 2:02.75 to finish 15th.
