RED LODGE, Mont. – Three Top-20 finishes by The College of Idaho men's alpine ski team helped the Yotes to a fourth-place finish in today's giant slalom at the USCSA Western Regional Championships on Red Lodge Mountain.
The Coyotes clocked a 2-run team time of 4:40.41 – less than two seconds off a podium finish – as C of I positions themselves for one of four bids to the USCSA National Championships.
Rocky Mountain took home the team title (4:27.75), ahead of Utah (4:35.13) and Colorado (4:38.95), with Air Force in fifth (4:44.02).
Carson Parco led the Coyotes, finishing 11th overall with a 2-run time of 1:32.99. Less than a second separated the three C of I scorers, as
William Paquette took 15th (1:33.67) and
Benjamin Troyer placed 17th (1:33.75).
Cade McIntyre also finished a pair of runs, taking 50th (1:43.10).
Alexander Sehlberg of Rocky earned the gold medal (1:27.86), ahead of Dominik Brazerol of Utah (1:28.71) and fellow Rocky skier Gusten Berglund (1:29.54).
The regional championships conclude tomorrow with slalom races – with the top four teams in the alpine combined earning the automatic bids to the National Championships in Lake Placid, N.Y.
