SPOKANE, Wash. / POCATELLO, Idaho - College of Idaho competed in a pair of venues on the day, racing at the Lilac Grand Prix at the Podium, while finishing Day 1 of the Mountain State Games at Holt Arena.
The Yotes attempted to qualify their distance medley relay in the elite meet in Spokane, with the team of
Daniel Butler,
Isaac Ballew,
Trajan Holtzen and
Logan Hunt missing the national mark by just two seconds (10:19.64).
In Pocatello,
Casey Senethavilay paced the sprint contingent - qualifying for the finals of the 200-meters with a personal-best time of 22.86 seconds, the third-fastest time ever by a Coyote. He added a stellar mark of 7.18 seconds in the 60-meters.
Also punching his ticket to tomorrow's finals was
Zach Curtsinger in the 400-meters (51.37).
In the jumps,
Kade Setoki led a group of four C of I athletes to surge past the 21-foot mark, placing second overall with a leap of 6.70 meters (21 feet, 11.75 inches), a centimeter ahead of teammate
Kendrik Caldwell (6.69 meters / 21 feet, 11.50 inches).
Bryan Terry posted the top mark among the Coyotes in the shot put, taking sixth overall with a throw of 15.08 meters (49 feet, 7.5 inches).
Competing in the heptathlon, both
Caleb Brown and
Lane Maher had tough opening days - with Brown eighth overall (2.374) and Maher ninth (2,346).
Tomorrow, a small group of athletes will race in Spokane at the Whitworth Invitational, with the rest of the squad finishing Day 2 of the MSG.
