Dylan Martinez was honored today as both the Erck Hotels Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week and the NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week, announced by both governing bodies.
In addition, running back
Nick Calzaretta was named Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Martinez had a banner afternoon in the Yotes 42-14 season opening win at MSU-Northern, tying a school-record with 16 total tackles, adding 2.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He joins Cory Brady ('14) and Nate Moore ('15, '16) as C of I defensive players to earn the national award.
Calzaretta earns the Frontier honor for the fourth time in his Coyote career, rushing 18 times for 206 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. He moved into third place on C of I's all-time rushing yard list in the win, recording his 10th career 100-yard game.
The Yotes open up their home schedule on Saturday, playing host to Rocky Mountain at 1 p.m. The game will be carried live on the Yotes Digital Network with Mike Safford calling the action.
