CALDWELL, Idaho – A near school-record by
Andrew Clifford and wins from
Ian Clifford and
Ryan Barnard helped The College of Idaho to a Day 2 lead at the Association of Independent Institutions Virtual Championships inside the J.A Albertson Aquatics Center.
The Coyotes remained perfect in relay events, as C of I holds a 295-279 lead on Loyola of New Orleans after 11 events.
Ian Clifford earned a win in the 400-yard individual medley, finishing with a season-best mark of 4:19.51, which would have met the NAIA provisional standard.
His older brother,
Andrew Clifford blitzed the field in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a personal-best time of 50.73 seconds – the third-fastest time in program history.
Barnard was locked in the tightest race of the day, using a strong back half of his 100-yard breaststroke to grab the win in a time of 1:01.01.
The Yotes opened the day with a two-second win in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Mitch Hawley, Barnard,
Jake Klassen and
Andrew Clifford recorded a time of 1:38.20. Both Clifford brothers, along with Barnard and Klassen dropped 10 seconds off their 800-yard freestyle relay time in 2021, claiming a win in 7:16.23.
Day 3 of the meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. – with the teams competing in the long course events – live on the Yotes Digital Network.
