WHITEFISH, Mont. - A great all-around day netted College of Idaho's
Cole Schmidt ERCK Hotels - Frontier Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, announced by the league office.
The second-year Coyote, from Walla Walla, Wash., was instrumental in C of I's 17-15 road win at Southern Oregon, finishing with four tackles, a sack and a fourth quarter interception that all but sealed the victory.. He was part of the punt return unit late in Saturday's game that blocked a Raiders punt, with Schmidt recovering the football and covering the final four yards for the touchdown - providing the winning points.
Schmidt currently leads the Coyotes with 5.5 sacks on the season, tied for fourth in the Frontier Conference.
In addition, the Yotes climbed six spots to No. 19 in the latest NAIA Top-25 Coaches' Poll, released this afternoon. C of I is one of three Frontier Conference teams in the Top-25 - joined by Rocky Mountain (No. 17) and Montana Western (No. 24).
The Coyotes close out their home schedule on Saturday, hosting Eastern Oregon at 1 p.m.
