2019-20 Coyote Athletics - Inside the Numbers

CALDWELL, Idaho - The 2019-20 College of Idaho athletic season was cut short due to COVID-19, but it did not diminish the success of Coyote teams, student-athletes and coaches. Trips to the national championships, Top-25 rankings, All-Conference and All-America awards were achieved by Coyote athletes during the season, as was a record-setting year in the classroom.

156:    Coyote athletes racked up a record 156 Academic All-Conference Awards - including 127 Cascade Conference All-Academic Team honors, the most ever in a single-season by a CCC school. C of I is poised to have over 100 NAIA Scholar-Athletes when the award is announced in September, while all 20 intercollegiate teams posted a 3.0 or higher grade point average during the school year.

35:    35 C of I student-athletes earned All-Conference honors, led by the football team, which posted 16 All-Frontier Conference honors at the conclusion of the 2019 season. In addition 41 Coyotes were named as their respective conference Players of the Week. This number is less than in the past - as spring sports did not release all-conference teams.

11:    Eleven individual student-athletes were honored as All-Americans - including Talon Pinckney (men's basketball), Alex Martin (men's cross country), Larissa Mauer (women's cross country), Molly Vitale-Sullivan (women's cross country / indoor track), Kyle Mitchell (football), Maya Murphy (women's swimming) and Andrew Clifford (men's swimming) earning first-team honors. In addition, four men's swim relay teams, two women's relay teams and the women's indoor track distance medley relay teams earned All-America honors. Four athletes (Kyle Mitchell, Darius-James Peterson, Alex Martin and Kristopher Kostelecky) were also honored by the NAIA as National Players of the Week in their respective sports.

10:    Ten teams were ranked at some point during the 2019-20 season - led by the men's basketball team, which ended the season ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Division II. Both the men's and women's cross country teams climbed to No. 2 in their respective polls, lacrosse reached No. 3 in their preseason poll, with both football and men's swimming reaching the No. 5 position.

10:    10 student-athletes were honored as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans - a new school record. Those honored were selected for both their athletic and academic success and were first selected to their respective Academic All-District Teams. Earning the award were Kristopher Kostelecky (men's track), Alex Martin (men's track), Molly Vitale-Sullivan (women's track), Dominic Garzoli (football), Connor Gagain (football), Gabe Zurita-Haber (football), Kyle Mitchell (football), Andrew Clifford (at-large, men's swimming), Caroline Yannelli (at-large, women's swimming), Maya Murphy (at-large, women's swimming). In addition, 13 other student-athletes were named to their Academic All-District teams - with the 23 total honors the most ever by the College.7:     Seven teams qualified for their respective national championships - with the cross country program winning the combined NAIA national title. Individually, the women's cross country team placed second and the football, men's swimming and men's cross country teams all placing fifth at nationals.

5:    Five teams won regular-season conference titles - men's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, football, men's skiing.  Men's basketball also claimed the 2019-20 CCC Tournament title. Three coaches were also honored as their respective conference Coach of the Year in their sport - Colby Blaine in men's basketball, Austin Basterrechea in both men's and women's cross country and Mike Moroski in football, with Blaine earning NAIA National Coach of the Year honors.

1:    The best fans in the NAIA. The Coyote football, men's basketball and women's basketball teams led their respective conferences in attendance, with men's basketball ranking No. 2 in NAIA attendance and football finishing No. 4 in the NAIA.
