SEASON OPENERS: The Coyotes open their 36th season of intercollegiate soccer on Saturday, looking to break a stalemate among the opening games of the season. Since the program began in 1984, the Yotes are 16-16-3 in their season openers – including last year's 1-1 draw vs. the University of Jamestown. It is the 26th time C of I has started a season on the road, posting a 9-13-3 record. The Coyotes last won their season opener in 2016 a 1-0 decision at Embry-Riddle.
Â
ROAD WARRIORS: C of I will not play a home non-conference match in 2019 – the second-straight season where the Yotes will play all of their preseason dates away from Simplot Stadium. In all, the Coyotes will play their first five games – three non-conference dates and their first two Cascade Conference match-ups on the road, before opening a seven-match home schedule on Sept. 27 vs. Eastern Oregon. Last season, C of I played their first seven games of the year on the road.
Â
REKINDLING A RIVALRY: For the first time since 2012, the Yotes will be playing a countable contest against Canyon County rival, Northwest Nazarene. The Yotes and the Nighthawks have played four exhibition games and two scrimmages over the past six seasons – with NNU winning all four exhibition contests (including a tight 1-0 decision last year). Though C of I holds a commanding 42-15-3 lead in the all-time series, the Nighthawks are 5-0-1 against the Yotes since they returned to the pitch in 2007 after a five-year hiatus. C of I has a 23-9-3 all-time record at NNU – with their last road win coming in 2002, a 1-0 overtime decision.
