GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. – College of Idaho's
Jacopo Gelmetti won his second-straight Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference slalom qualifier, besting the field at Mount Hood Ski Bowl.
Originally scheduled as a giant slalom qualifier, snow conditions at the venue forced the NWCSC to change locations on the mountain – with the shortened course leading to a pair of slalom runs instead.
The freshman had a dominant morning run and cruised to the gold medal with a two-run time of 1:18.31 – his third individual championship of the season.
As a team, the Yotes saw a narrow morning lead erased by Washington State (4:00.25), with the Cougars clinching the NWCSC overall team title with their win by less than a second over C of I (4:00.86). The University of Washington placed third (4:09.84).
Trevor Trimble continued his outstanding season, taking third overall (1:19.74), with Mateo Gonzalez in tenth (1:22.81).
Five other C of I athletes recorded two qualifying runs –
Jarod Esnoz in 15th (1:28.78),
Arnav Virmani in 18th (1:36.40),
William Gisler in 20th (1:37.73),
Andrew Brinker in 22nd (1:39.31) and
Christopher Truksa in 28th (1:51.21).
The teams will close out the regular-season tomorrow with a final slalom qualifier – with the 10-person All-NWCSC Team to be announced following the race.
