CALDWELL, Idaho - Despite mounting late comeback efforts in both games, College of Idaho softball dropped their final two games to Oregon Tech today at home. The Yotes were narrowly defeated - 3-2 in the first and 6-5 in the second - and are now 11-8 overall and 2-4 in Cascade Conference play.
Oregon Tech pitcher Kelly Scott allowed six hits and struck out seven to pick up her ninth win of the year during today's first game. College of Idaho pitcher
Colette Robert allowed nine hits while striking out one. She now sits at 8-3 for the season.
Kiahna Brown kicked things off for the Owls in the first game, hitting a home run to left field in the third inning. One batter later, her teammate Tara Moates would send one over the fence at center field to bring the score to 2-0. In the fifth inning, Olivia Lethlean made it home on an Ali Graham center field single to make the score 3-0.
The Yotes turned it on in on the seventh inning when
Trystin Crofts hit a left field home run, resulting in runs for her and
Taylor Eakle. Down by one run,
Marissa Maddox got on base with a single to left field. The comeback was cut short as
Bentli Corta struck out and
Kristin Paulazzo hit a fly ball to center field.
In the second game, the Yotes struck first with a
Kylie Smith run after
Trystin Crofts made it to first base on a fielders choice. Later in the same inning,
Angelina Romero made the score 2-0 after
Martha Tooley hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
In the third inning, Baylee Wyscaver hit a homer out to right field to put the Owls within one run of the Yotes. Moates would ground out to the shortstop later in the inning, but it allowed Brown to make it home and tie the game at 2-2.
In the fourth inning, Oregon Tech's Rachael Delamare started things off with a double to right field. Jacey Conklin would fly out to center field two batters later, allowing Delamare to make it to home for a score of 3-2.
Up first in the fifth inning, Brown hit a home run to left field. In the same inning, Irene McGuire's single to left field sent Sahalie Doe home and put the Owls up 5-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, a
Martha Tooley double to right field allowed Crofts to tack another run on for the Yotes. The Owls responded in the top of the sixth with an unearned Conklin run on a Doe double.
The Yotes scored the final two runs of the day starting with
Aleah Mendiola scoring on a wild pitch from OIT's Sarah Abramson. In the seventh inning, Tooley flied out to center field while Crofts ran home to make the score 6-5. The Yotes tried to regain the lead, starting with a double from Eakle. Up next,
Jordan Maddox and
Mallory Copeland walked to fill the bases. The comeback ended with a Paulazzo fly ball to center field.
Abramson, coming into pitch in the third inning, allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out one.
Sadee Sorensen - pitching the first three for the Yotes - allowed five hits and two walks while striking out one in the loss.
The Yotes are back in action Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 for a four game series at Carroll College in Helena, Mont.
