HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. - The College of Idaho softball team dropped a pair of games to Division II schools at the Northwest Cup at Hood View Park.
The Lady Yotes (3-2-1) fell 9-1 to Simon Fraser and 3-1 to Concordia-Irvine, mustering just five hits on the afternoon.
Â
In the opener, SFU (2-0) had the first five batters of the game reach base – part of a four-run inning – with Taylor Lundrigan plating a pair with a single. The Clan put the game out of reach in the fourth, as an Alex Baylak two-run single capped a second four-run frame, to extend the lead to 9-0.
Â
C of I got their lone run in their final at bats, as
Delaney Atkins walked and scored on a two-out
Kristin Paulazzo single.
Â
Kate Rowe was 2-for-2 for the Yotes, while two SFU players each had two hits.
Â
Game 2 hinged on a key error in the second inning to prolong the frame – with the Eagles (14-1) Hannah Howell following with a two-out, two-run double and Ryann Ferguson doubling her home.
Â
The Yotes got a run back in the third as
Jodie Hoagland doubled, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. However CUI starter Grayson Harvey stranded the tying run at the plate in each of the final two innings, tossing a two-hitter, striking out eight in the win.
Â
The loss spoiled a quality start from
Cortni Pena, who allowed just six hits and struck out six in the complete game effort.
Â
C of I closes out tournament play tomorrow with games against Concordia-Irvine and Concordia-Portland.
