CALDWELL, Idaho –
Sam Grise delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning to lead the College of Idaho to a 4-3 victory over the University of Puget Sound in the series finale at Wolfe Field.
The victory for the Yotes (10-1) helped the club win their third-straight series to start the season.
Leading 3-2 after six innings, the Yotes saw the visiting Loggers (2-5) pull even on an Alex Sierra sacrifice fly, but C of I answered, as
Jake Bowman doubled, with courtesy runner
Seth Champlin scoring on the knock from Grise.
It was enough for
Jake Eddy, who fanned six batters in three-plus innings of relief, with
Bobby Wright getting the final three outs for his second save.
C of I jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third, as
Cole Mansanerez singled and
Devon Pogue added a two-run single. UPS answered in the fourth with a two-run Nick Funyak single to get the visitors within a run – but could not grab the lead.
Coyote starter
Riley O'Brien struck out four in a four-inning stint, with Mansanerez, Bowman and Grise all recording two hits. Funyak had a two hit day for the Loggers.
The Yotes hit the road next weekend for four games in California – meeting both Biola and Bethesda University.
