LA MIRADA, Calif. –
Zach Draper struck out five in six-plus innings of work and
Hunter Hanson connected on his third home run of the season, helping the College of Idaho to a 7-2 victory at Biola University.
The Yotes (11-1) won for the third time in a row and improved to 5-0 this season on the road.
C of I manufactured a pair of runs in the fourth – one on a
Johnny Hyland sacrifice fly and another on a
Bobby Wright ground out, to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles (4-10) got a run back in the bottom of the frame on a Eugene Chin single, but the Yotes loaded the bases in the fifth, with
Dalton Ridgway coming through with a clutch two-out, two-run single to extend the lead.
Biola chased Draper in the seventh after a Sam Thorne RBI single, but reliever Caleb Price worked out of a first-and-third jam to keep the score at 4-2. The Yotes broke the game open in the eighth, as
Jake Bowman delivered an RBI single and Hanson blasted a two-run homer.
Eight different Yotes had one hit in the victory – including doubles from Cole Mansanerez and
Grayson Wilkie.
C of I plays a pair of games tomorrow – a 10 a.m. rematch with Biola and an 1 p.m. meeting with Bethesda University.
