Kamimae Homers Twice as Lady Yotes Win at Holy Names

KENTFIELD, Calif. – Two-run homers from Rickey Kamimae and Destiny Turner were the difference as the College of Idaho opened the 2016 season with a 5-1 road win at Holy Names at COM Field.

Box Score - Game One, Box Score - Game Two

The two teams were unable to finish Game 2, as the squads played to a 4-4 draw after darkness halted the game after seven innings.

Ashley Pesek earned the win in Game 1, allowing just five hits and striking out six in her debut with the Lady Yotes (1-0-1).

After stranding five runners in the first three innings, C of I scored first in the fourth, as Kamimae doubled, with pinch runner Bentli Corta scoring on a Cassidy Ferrell RBI ground out.  The Hawks (0-1-1) tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a two-out Marissa Gasca RBI single.

Enter the Coyote juniors – as Hailey Chambers doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on Kamimae's blast to right field, while in the seventh, Turner blasted a her two-run shot to center.

Turner, Kamimae and Chambers each had two of the Yotes 10 hits on the day.

In the nightcap, HNU took a 1-0 lead in the second as Megan Porche tripled and scored on a Geena Garabedian ground out.  C of I tied the score in the third on a Kristin Paulazzo RBI single, taking the lead in the fourth on a Hawks error.

Courtney Tarbat pushed the hosts on top in the fifth with a go-ahead two-run homer, only to see Kamimae slug her second long ball of the day to give the Yotes a 4-3 sixth inning lead.  The home run parade continued in the bottom of the inning, as Garabedian lined a solo shot to center to tie the score – with neither team threatening in the seventh before the game was halted.

Kamimae and Courtney Ellis each had two hits for the Yotes, with Cortni Pena allowing two earned runs and striking out three in the no-decision.

C of I closes out their Bay Area trip tomorrow with a doubleheader at Menlo College.
