FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A final leg rally in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay helped Pacific University complete a dual meet sweep of the College of Idaho this morning at the Forest Grove Aquatics Center.
Men's Results Women's Results The Boxers women (2-3) picked up eight wins in their 135-82 victory over C of I, however, the PU men (1-4) erased a late Coyote lead with wins in the final two events to eke out a 112-105 decision.
The Yotes (2-1) recorded back-to-back first-second finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly to take a 94-87 lead in the 12-event dual. Paul Allen, who won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.09), grabbed his second win of the day with the 200-yard breaststroke victory (2:27.34), out-touching fellow C of I swimmer Shane Allen (2:29.24), while Tyler Maryon won the butterfly (54.63), just ahead of teammate Thomas Sheridan, who clocked an NAIA "B" cut with his mark of 54.70.
Pacific pulled within two points with a one-second Charles Morse victory in the 200-yard individual medley, and then rallied behind Jack Lloyd in the final relay. C of I held a quarter-second lead heading into the final 50-yards, with Lloyd busting a 20.78 final sprint to help the Boxers to a time of 1:29.05 – a full second clear of the Yotes – despite C of I's time of 1:30.38 being a seasonal best.
C of I earned an opening win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.40), with Casey Walker (55.29)and Jacob Roberts (55.84) claiming the top-two spots in the 100-yard backstroke – as Roberts hit the NAIA bonus cut with his time. Sheridan also earned a convincing win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.74).
Ray Miller (200-free, 200-fly) and Lloyd (50-free, 100-free) earned two individual wins for the Boxers.
On the women's side, the Lady Yotes (4-1) lost their first dual of the season – but saw another outstanding performance from Mckayla Stevens. The sophomore recorded her second-fastest time of the season in winning the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.37), and then easily won the 200-yard IM (2:23.39).
The Lady Yotes also received a victory from Quin McLaughlin in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.58), with the 200-yard freestyle relay team capping the meet with a win (1:45.82).
Katie Porter led the Boxers with three individual wins (50-free, 100-free, 200-fly), with Amanda Clark winning two races (200-free, 200-breast).
C of I makes their home debut next Friday, hosting Boise State in a time trial meet at 5:30 p.m.
