Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho - Using their most prolific offensive performance in nearly a decade, the College of Idaho picked up their first Cascade Conference victory of 2014, rolling past Oregon Tech, 7-2, at Simplot Stadium.
The Coyotes (4-2, 1-1 CCC) scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the contest, with the seven goals the most scored by a C of I team since defeating Cascade, 7-0, on Oct. 10, 2004.
The onslaught began in the third minute, as Luis Gomez sliced a pass across the top of the six yard box, finding the waiting boot of Tyler Lawton, who slotted home the initial goal inside the far post. Â Two minutes later, Joe Bolin looped a shot over charging OIT (1-5, 0-2) keeper James Goheen, but the Owls defense cleared the ball into the back of their own net for an own goal.
The Yotes continued the pressure, as Bolin made a 40-yard run down the left since, touching a shot past Goheen in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0. Â In the 39th minute, Riley Smith played a long through-ball down the right side to Nate Hunt, who drove a low shot into the right corner of the net. Â Smith made it 5-0 just before the break, earning a penalty kick after been brought down in the box, calmly tucking the opportunity from the spot into the right corner of the net.
C of I made it 6-0 less than a minute into the second half, as Bolin took advantage of a failed clearance, crushing a 20-yard dart into the left corner of the net.
The Owls averted the shutout in the 73rd minute, as Mack Murphy redirected a Jackson Smith corner kick into the net, then in the 85th minute, Steven Dumas stole the ball from a Coyote defender and drove the ball into the right corner of the net from just inside the area.
The Coyotes capped the scoring in the 89th minute, as Tyler Sharp played a great through ball to John Fronk at the top of the 18, flicking a shot into the net at the near post.
C of I dominated the game, holding a commanding 28-5 edge in shots, including a 14-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Yotes close out a four-match home stand on Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Concordia.
