CALDWELL, Idaho - A pair of combination goals helped Concordia University remain unbeaten in Cascade Conference play, spoiling the home opener for The College of Idaho, as the Cavaliers toppled the Yotes, 2-0, at Simplot Stadium.
Box Score
A pretty first half goal from Michael Chamberlain and a second half tally from Septi Danciu helped the Cavs (4-2-1, 3-0 CCC) keep pace with Northwest and Evergreen atop the loop standings.
The Coyotes (0-5-2, 0-3), who are off to their worst start in program history, nearly got on the board in the first minute, as Luis Gomez got free at the top of the 18, with his right-footed shot just wide right. Playing between the 18's for the next 20 minutes, the Yotes again had a near-miss, when a Joseph Bolin shot was blocked over the bar by CU keeper Cole Dahle.
The Cavaliers increased their pace in the final 15 minutes of the first half and it paid off in the 36th minute, as Jared Brace collected a loose ball on the right side of the box and crossed a ball to the waiting foot of Chamberlain, who drove home the game winner, his fourth goal of the year.
Early in the second half, the Coyotes nearly caught a break, as Dahle was out of position on a slow, rolling shot from Jamie Valle, but Jordan Green cleared the ball off the goal line. CU countered in the 55th minute, as Chamberlain played a through-ball to Danciu in the middle of the box, as the All-CCC player slotted home the insurance goal.
CU had a 15-12 edge in total shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks, with Dahle making three saves in the shutout win. Brace and Chamberlain each had three shots for the Cavaliers, while Gomez led the Yotes with three shots.
The C of I will look for their first win of the season on Saturday, traveling to Oregon Tech for a 1 p.m. (PT) kickoff.
