Top Performances

Track and Field:

• 800 meters (Outdoor): 2:28.00, achieved at the Oregon State High Performance meet in April 2023.

• 1500 meters (Outdoor): 4:55.21, recorded at the Eastern Oregon Open in April 2024.

• Mile (Outdoor): 5:24.89, set at the Weber State Spring Classic in April 2024.

• 3000 meters (Indoor): 10:52.39, achieved at the Mtn States Games in February 2024.

• 5000 meters (Outdoor): 18:34.93, recorded at the NNU Open in April 2024

Cross Country:

• 6k: 23:00.2 at the CCC Preview Meet (September 15, 2023)

• 7k: 27:59.3 at the Dr. Thad Scholes CSI XC Classic (September 6, 2024)

• 8k: 30:22.7 at the 49th Charles Bowles Willamette XC Invitational (October 5, 2024)

HIGH SCHOOL:  
Canals was a 2018 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Utah, where he excelled in both cross country and track. He was a 3-time 6A state qualifier in cross country, placing 42nd as a senior with a personal best time of 16:52 in the 5,000 meters. In track, he showcased his talent with top times of 4:37.12 in the 1,600 meters and 10:00.94 in the 3,200 meters, also qualifying for the 6A state meet twice. Canals played a pivotal role in leading his teams to become Region 2 Champions in both cross country and track, and he set a school record in the Distance Medley Relay. Academically, he earned three Academic Letters and served as a Midvale City Youth Ambassador, demonstrating his commitment to excellence both on the track and in the classroom.
 
PERSONAL:
Joining the Yote Fam from West Jordan, UT, Justin was raised by Juan and Janie Canals. Aside from his efforts on the course, Justin is also working hard in the classroom in pursuit of a degree in Accounting. He chose The College of Idaho because “I wanted the opportunity to continue competing in the sports I love, on a team with a history of success. C of I also gives me the chance to succeed in the classroom as well as athletically”.
