KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore setter Shaynee McWilliams has been named the PrestoSports NAIA Women's Volleyball Setter of the Week after helping No. 4 College of Idaho remain unbeaten with a pair of conference victories over nationally recognized opponents.
The Meridian, Idaho, native directed the Yotes to a five-set victory over No. 6 Corban and a straight-set sweep of receiving-votes Bushnell, extending College of Idaho's program-best start to 13-0. The honor marks McWilliams' first NAIA weekly award of the season and comes after she earned her fourth Cascade Collegiate Conference Setter of the Week honor in five possible weeks.
McWilliams averaged 11.38 assists per set across the two victories, totaling 91 assists while adding 29 digs, five service aces and four blocks.
Against Corban, McWilliams recorded 57 assists and 17 digs while adding two aces and two blocks in the five-set victory. She followed with 34 assists, 12 digs, three aces and two blocks in Saturday's sweep of Bushnell.
The weekend continued a standout sophomore campaign for McWilliams, who has started all 13 matches for the Yotes. Through the first 13 matches of the season, she has totaled 447 assists, 145 digs, 16 aces and 44 kills while averaging 9.31 assists and 3.02 digs per set.
McWilliams has recorded at least 30 assists in nine of the Yotes' 13 matches and has posted double-digit assists-per-set averages in six matches. She has also recorded double-doubles in assists and digs in six matches this season.
Her 447 assists have helped lead a College of Idaho offense that has powered the Yotes to the No. 4 ranking in the NAIA and a 13-0 overall record. The Yotes also sit at 6-0 in Cascade Conference play following the weekend sweep.
McWilliams and the Yotes return to action this week with another pair of conference matches as they continue the best start in program history.
