EUGENE, Ore. - The College of Idaho survived a seven-point Bushnell run at the end of the first set and never let the match get that close again, sweeping the host 25-23, 25-19, 25-12 on Saturday afternoon at Morse Center.
The win moved CI to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
The opening set was the only one in doubt. Bushnell went ahead 5-1 behind two Kelsy Stanger attack errors and a Malia Hernandez ace before CI answered with seven straight on Avery Lewis's serve, a stretch that included an ace and kills from Jessica Stires and Shaynee McWilliams. The teams traded the lead through 13-13 until Kadence Boyd served CI from 15-14 to 22-14, picking up back-to-back aces off Amyah Semau in the middle of it. Bushnell then scored seven in a row from 24-16, with Taya Blankenship serving the whole run, to pull within 24-23. CI called its second timeout of the sequence, sent in Whitney Pierzga, and Pierzga set Stires for the set-winning kill.
CI hit .268 in the second set after a .190 first and controlled it from 9-9 on, opening a 18-14 edge on an Alexa Wheeler and Cierra Bohrn block and closing on a McWilliams kill.
The third was one-sided. CI trailed only at 0-1, got consecutive aces from Kadance Jacobson, and went up 11-5 when McWilliams served three straight aces. Lewis served the final five points, three of them ending on Keylee Wilson kills in her only set of the afternoon.
McWilliams finished with 34 assists, 12 digs, three aces, and four kills on eight swings. Stanger led the attack with 10 kills on .389 hitting, Wheeler added eight kills and a team-high 4.0 blocks, and Lewis dug 17 balls. CI hit .355 in the third set and .263 for the match.
Semau carried Bushnell with 14 kills on .355 hitting and 12 digs, but the rest of the roster combined for 15 kills and 11 errors, and the team finished at .140. Blankenship added six kills, and Chloe Farr had 11 digs.
Bushnell fell to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in conference.
