NAMPA, Idaho - The College of Idaho men put seven runners in the top 15 to win the Northwest Nazarene Invitational on Friday at West Park, scoring 37 points to beat host Northwest Nazarene (53) and Southern Idaho (92).
The CI women got an individual title from senior Kylee Quinton but finished second in the team race, one point behind Southern Idaho, 45-46.
Northwest Nazarene's Luke Stockett won the men's 8,000 meters in 24:42.6, a tenth of a second ahead of teammate Ian Stockett. Freshman Ben Hugaboom led the Yotes in third at 24:56.7, the fastest 8K in the Cascade Conference this season. Sophomore Matt Wilde was fifth (25:11.0) and sophomore Everett Metier eighth (25:21.1), giving CI three of the conference's four fastest marks.
Freshman Austin Riley (11th, 25:24.2) and sophomore Cooper Vickhammer (13th, 25:26.9) completed the scoring five, with sophomore Isaac Edwards (14th) and senior Michael Altenburg (15th) right behind. Just 30.2 seconds separated CI's first and fifth runners.
Quinton won the women's 6,000 meters in 22:04.4, finishing 14.7 seconds ahead of Northwest Nazarene's Hazel Kunkel. Freshman Talia Bonville was fourth in 22:23.2 and senior Rozzlyn Cazier 11th in 22:34.6. The three hold three of the top four 6K marks in the conference.
The team title came down to the back of the scoring five. Sophomore Paiten Braseth was 15th in 22:52.8, and sophomore Josie Patton crossed 18th in 23:00.5, nine-tenths of a second behind Southern Idaho's fifth runner, Rachel Crummett. One spot higher for Patton would have flipped the result in CI's favor. Indianna Lundell led Southern Idaho in third (22:19.8).
Northwest Nazarene was third in the women's race with 56 points, followed by Lewis-Clark (91), Eastern Oregon (123) and Treasure Valley (183). On the men's side, Walla Walla's Isaac Acker was fourth individually in 24:57.3, six-tenths behind Hugaboom. Eastern Oregon (106), Lewis-Clark (116), Walla Walla (140) and Treasure Valley (194) rounded out the men's standings.
