CALDWELL, Idaho – A small group of sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers from the College of Idaho opened the outdoor track and field season Friday at the Gary Feasel Open, hosted by Eastern Oregon University, turning in a strong day across the board.
The Yotes recorded 45 new Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying marks, 11 additions to the College of Idaho all-time top-10 list, and 42 personal records in the season-opening meet.
On the men's side, Kenyon Carter highlighted the day with a pair of strong hurdle performances. Carter won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.11 seconds, a CCC qualifying mark that ranks No. 3 in program history, and added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles (55.49), moving to No. 6 all-time at C of I.
Teammate Trevor Treat also posted two qualifying performances in the hurdles, placing second in the 110 hurdles (15.22) and third in the 400 hurdles (55.50), both marks ranking inside the program's all-time top 10.
In the jumps, Xavier Harms claimed the event title in the triple jump with a leap of 13.46 meters, a CCC qualifier that ranks No. 6 in school history, while Tristin Veach cleared 4.35 meters to place second in the pole vault, moving to No. 6 all-time at the College.
Lucas Midgett led the men's throwers with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw (46.98m), while Reed Martin placed third in the discus with a qualifying mark of 44.61 meters. Evan Anderson added another top performance with a 49.28-meter throw in the javelin, good for fourth place and No. 6 all-time in program history.
In the sprints, Cash Mckie placed fifth in both the 100 meters (11.16) and 200 meters (22.74), while Tristin Veach added a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters (11.23).
The women's squad also delivered several standout performances. Taylor Durfey won the hammer throw with a mark of 47.75 meters, a CCC qualifier that ranks No. 6 all-time at C of I, while Laynie Davis captured the discus title with a 43.27-meter throw, moving to No. 5 in program history.
Mattie Shirts recorded a pair of victories in the jumps, winning the high jump (1.58m) and triple jump (11.03m), both CCC qualifying marks. Jada Miller also had a big day, winning the long jump (5.33m) and placing second in the triple jump (10.85m), with both marks ranking No. 7 all-time at the College.
In the pole vault, Kiriann Johnson cleared 3.38 meters to take the event title and secure a CCC qualifying mark.
Other strong finishes came from Kota Bussen, who placed second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.19) and third in the high jump (1.49m), and Stella Gray, who finished second in the shot put (12.40m).
The Yotes will continue their outdoor season next week as competition ramps up across the region.
