Yotes Score 11 Unanswered Against RV Western Oregon

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho - The No. 10 College of Idaho continued to dominate at Simplot Stadium to take down the visiting (RV) Western Oregon University Wolves 16-2 on Sunday afternoon to wrap up three straight days of wins at home. The Yotes outscored opponents 48-7 over the weekend.

C of I watched the (RV) University of Denver Pioneers barely hang on to defeat the Wolves 10-9 in double overtime the day before. Knowing the Wolves were a strong opponent, C of I needed to start fast.

Trevor Shoopman opened the scoring in beautiful fashion. He took a Grayson Flatten pass from the X and faked the goalie out before finishing with a behind the back shot that put the Yotes on the scoreboard first. His goal inspired the Yotes to score eight total goals in the first frame and put eleven on the board before the Wolves finally got a goal midway through the third quarter. The host picked up five more goals to put the game well out of reach.

Brogan Rice stood on his head between the pipes. He made 14 saves at a 87.5% save rate to solidify himself as one of the nation's best. With a minimum of 15 saves, Rice has the second best save rate in the country at 81.5%, only 0.2% away from the top spot.

Trevor Shoopman scored four goals and facilitated two assists in the game to put him at 42 points on the season. His tally of points is the fifth highest mark in the MCLA. Flatten and Finn Simon both scored hat tricks while Logan Bjornethun scored a brace. Hunter Duran, Jordan Steele, Wyatt Neu, and Henry Harris each notched their name in the box score with a goal.

Noah Geise excelled from face off to win 13 face offs and only failed to win seven times. He led the Yotes with seven ground balls. The Yotes were a menace causing turnovers as a committee of Bjornethun, Alexander Hohler, Chris Niemann, Noah Nienhouse, Jack Williamson, Carter Pechin, Eli Longstreet combined to force 10 turnovers.

Building momentum off of a 6-0 start, the Yotes turn their attention to hosting No. 4 Montana State at Simplot Stadium on March 6th. First face off is at 6PM MT.
