Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho - Facing their stiffest competition so far in the season, the No. 10 Yotes toppled (RV) University of Denver Pioneers 13-3. The high flying offense and stellar defense contributed to the marquee victory.
Friday afternoon got of to an ominous start when the Pioneers scored the opener. The Yotes quickly responded with a tying goal of their own, and early in the first quarter the Yotes would take the lead and never look back. In the second frame, the Yotes outscored the Pioneers 5-1 to take a 6-2 lead into halftime. With all of the confidence of an unbeaten team, the Yotes took over the third quarter and fired past five unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
Showing off their poise under pressure, the Yotes defense clamped down to only allow three goals from the high powered DU attack.
Brogan Rice's 13 saves anchored the defense.
Carter Pechin held strong and fought his way to cause five turnovers and picked up seven ground balls. From defensive midfield,
Parker Allumbaugh co-led the Yotes with seven ground balls.Â
Ensuring the Yotes had the maximum amount of possessions,
Noah Geise impressed from the face off. He won 13 out of his 18 match ups to give the Yotes control of the ball.
On the offense,
Grayson Flatten continued his scoring form by finishing four goals and assisting on another.
Colin Lantz and
Trevor Shoopman both scored braces in the game.
Trevor Shoopman also tallied three assists to lead the play making for C of I.
Hunter Duran,
Jordan Steele,
Henry Harris,
Wyatt Neu, and
Logan Bjornethun also tallied a goal in the contest.
