Ellensburg, Wash. - The Yotes opened the season with an emphatic 28-9 dismantling of Central Washington University. The Yotes have made it 10 straight wins over the Wildcats since 2012 and now have won season openers 15 years in a row.
C of I took a 6-3 advantage out of the first frame and then a 10-4 advantage into half before firing past nine unanswered goals in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Grayson Flatten led the team in goals by scoring six. Flatten contributed five more assists to total 11 points.
Trevor Shoopman led the Yotes in points with 14 coming off of four goals and an incredible 10 assists.
Henry Harris and
Wyatt Neu both also contributed four goals while
Hunter Duran and
Jordan Steele both added hat tricks in the season opener.
With the active hands,
Noah Geise,
Lanson Drain, and
Carter Pechin all grabbed five groundballs.
Eli Longstreet and
Trevor Shoopman both nabbed four groundballs. Pechin led the Yotes in forcing five turnovers. The wall behind the defensive line
Brogan Rice made 12 saves in the game with a 75% shot save percentage.
Cole Wentworth also earned time in between the pipes and made three saves.
