Yotes Teardown Wildcats on Senior Day

CALDWELL, Idaho - Following up the Yotes emphatic victory against the highly ranked Aggies, the seniors ended their last home game with a crushing 14-5 victory over Central Washington Univ. Wildcats. The win puts the No. 17 Yotes at an impressive 9-0 season. Before the game, graduating seniors David Alvarado, Alex Ozuna, Gavin Ozuna, Jacob Wong, Kip Childs, Kale Brunmeier, Alex Nixon, Paul O'Neill, and Max Anderson were honored with their families and friends for their tremendous contributions to the Yotes.

Coming off a significant win over the No. 9 Utah State, the Yotes were slow to find their rhythm, allowing the Wildcats to take the initial lead 1:30 into the game. Showing some angst, the Yotes struck for the first time three and a half minutes later. O'Neill then grabbed a great pass from Alvarado and fought his way through a pair of defenders to score the goal to put the Yotes up for the first time. The Yotes would not relinquish the lead and turned on the jets. By the end of the first, the Yotes led 4-1.

The Yotes were ready to flex their might in the second quarter. Wyatt Neu started the second quarter barrage after Kale Brunmeier had a great lift defensively and cleared it himself, spurring the counter attack. With the Wildcats on their heels, the Yotes found quick passes that ended up with Neu firing off an unstoppable shot. The Yotes would power past five goals unanswered in the second quarter to end the half up 10-1.

After scoring five goals in each of the first two frames, the Yotes took their feet of the gas and scored just a pair of goals in the third and fourth. The Wildcats finally found some rhythm late in the game but could only muster five goals on the day.

Neu did much of the heavy lifting offensively. He scored six goals and added an assist for seven points on the day. O'Neill scored a hattrick and Hunter Duran scored a pair of goals with an assist to get three points as well.

Lanson Drain was solid as the faceoff specialist. He won 61.5% and he also picked up five ground balls. Co-leading in groundballs, Anderson also picked up five. Jacob Wong had another stunning spell minding the net. He saved 13 shots with a 72.2% save rate.

The Yotes have a huge weekend up next. They will face No. 18 Montana and No. 10 Montana St. on April 4th and April 6 respectively.
