LA GRANDE, Ore., and SPOKANE, Wash. – The College of Idaho track and field team delivered an impressive weekend across two meets, with standout performances at the Lew Thorne Invitational in La Grande and the Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane. The Yotes set multiple school records, earned national qualifying marks, and added several all-time top-10 performances.
On the men's side, Daniel Butler set a school record in the mile with a converted time of 4:07.37, earning an NAIA National "A" Standard and ranking second in the nation. The men's 4x400m relay team of Chris Shakespeare, Zach Curtsinger, Dylan Wolfe, and Jonah Sowell also made history, becoming the first men's sprint relay team in school history to qualify for a national meet. Their converted time of 3:18.72 broke the school record and secured a National "B" Standard. The men's distance medley relay team of Hayden Bostrom, Curtsinger, Oclan Ryan, and Butler added another national qualifier, posting a converted time of 10:05.80, which is second all-time in school history and currently ranks seventh in the nation.
Several other Yotes delivered standout performances. Trevor Treat ran a converted 22.99 in the 200m, tying for 10th all-time, while Jett Longanecker posted a converted 1:25.06 in the 600m, ranking eighth all-time. Braden Heath ran a converted 8:31.78 in the 3000m, moving up to fourth all-time. In the field events, Tanner Sackman finished eighth all-time in the shot put with a mark of 14.51m and broke the school record in the weight throw with an 18.65m toss, earning a National "A" Standard and ranking fifth in the nation. Tanner Macy added another win for the Yotes, taking first place in the 200m with a time of 23.27. Amari Bluford also placed third in the long jump and set new personal bests in both that event and the 60m.
For the women's team, Charlotte Bowman tied the school record in the 200m with a time of 25.62 at the Riverfront Invitational in Spokane. Kiriann Johnson set a new school record in the pole vault, clearing 3.50m and narrowly missing the National "B" Standard after several close attempts. Stella Gray added another strong performance, winning the women's shot put, while Star Herron secured a victory in the weight throw with a mark of 16.37m.
Additional highlights included Stella Gray, who ran a converted 26.38 in the 200m, placing her sixth all-time, and Kahea Figueira, who clocked a 5:03.16 in the mile, securing a National "B" Standard and moving to sixth all-time in school history. The women's distance medley relay team of Julia Gilbert, Bowman, Kylee Quinton, and Figueira also earned a National "B" Standard with a time of 12:12.45, which ranks ninth in the nation. Mattie Shirts continued her strong weekend by setting three new personal bests in the 60m hurdles, high jump, and long jump, while also clearing 1.54m in the high jump to rank sixth all-time. Sarah Bolin also took third in the mile with a time of 5:37.27.
With multiple national qualifiers and record-breaking performances, the Yotes are building momentum as they continue their indoor season and prepare for upcoming championship meets.
