CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho's golf teams are set to challenge their preseason predictions, with both the men's and women's programs ranked fifth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) preseason poll. Despite the initial projections, the Yotes' golf squads are poised for a standout season, marked by a mix of seasoned talent and promising new additions.
For the men's team, the 2024 season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent history. The squad, which includes key returners Parker Edwards, Carson King, and Jack Phipps, is expected to be the deepest and most talented in program history. Edwards, a junior and one-time All-Conference honoree, led the team with a scoring average of 76.08 last season. Sophomore Carson King also contributed with a scoring average of 75.88, while senior Jack Phipps posted a 76.63 average.
The team will be adapting to the departure of key players Tristan Belue and Evan Inglesby, both of whom graduated after significant contributions. However, the Yotes have bolstered their lineup with standout transfers Lucas Rynearson from Northwest Nazarene University and Cole Wasson from Grays Harbor Community College. Wasson, a two-time All-Conference player, is expected to make an immediate impact. With these additions, the men's team is not only aiming to exceed their preseason ranking but also looking to set new school records.
On the women's side, the Coyotes are looking to make a strong return to competitiveness. The program will field a full team for the first time in several years, a significant milestone that enhances their prospects. Top returner Kaylee Jones, a graduate and All-Conference player, is expected to lead the team. The Yotes have also welcomed several key transfers: Reece Garey from LC State, Lauryn Bulger from North Idaho College, and freshman Olivia Lammey. This influx of talent is set to strengthen the team and elevate their performance in the conference.
Head Coach Jeff Davies expressed confidence in the teams' abilities, stating, "We have a mix of experienced players and exciting new talent. While the preseason poll places us fifth, I believe both teams have the potential to outperform those expectations and make a significant impact in the conference."
With their sights set on surpassing preseason projections, the College of Idaho's golf teams are ready to showcase their skills and determination. The season ahead promises to be a thrilling one as both programs look to leverage their depth and talent to rise in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
