Marion, Ind. - The first day of the 2023 NAIA Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships was led by the second place and All-American performance of junior
Ellyse Tingelstad in the 10,000m run.
The Joseph, Ore. native was in the top four for the entire race as she earned her first individual All-American honor with a time of 35:59.90. Julia Rohm of Southeastern (Fla.) edged her by 6.804 seconds for the individual title. Previously, Tingelstad had earned All-American honors as a member of the 4x800m relay on both the indoor and outdoor circuit in 2021. Teammate
Molly Connor was 24
th in 38:30.51.
Three Yotes secured spots in Friday's final including
Abbey Shirts in the 1500m run with the fifth-fastest qualifying time (4:38.52). The Yotes also got two in the final of the 3000m steeplechase led by
Sage Martin, who posted the eighth-fastest qualifying time in 10:58.41, followed by
Larissa Mauer, who had the 11
th fastest in 11:02.63.
The 4x100m relay team of
Chloe Barylski,
Charlotte Bowman,
Sage Wood and
Addison Trent were 18
th in a time of 47.81. Trent was 25
th in the long jump with a leap of 16-9.5 (5.12m).
Roby Young is in 10
th after day one of the heptathlon as she picked up 751 points (15.70) after a seventh-place finish in the 100m hurdles, 678 points with a clearance of 1.55m in the high jump, 488 points with a toss of 9.37m in the shot put, 769 points (26.43) in the 200m dash.
On the men's side,
Braden Heath qualified for Friday's finals in the 3000m steeplechase with the seventh-fastest qualifying time (9:21.72).
College of Idaho picked up a pair of 24th-place finishes.
Hayden Bostrom in the 10,000m run (31:52.72) and
Daniel Butler in the 1500m run (4:07.66).
